Mary Baker Eddy, a Christian healer, discovered and founded Christian Science, defining Christian Science as “the law of God, the law of good . . . ” (Rudimental Divine Science, p. 1). She discovered that God is infinite Love, and completely good. A clear glimpse of this has power to heal and transform anyone.

Mary Baker Eddy was a lifelong student of the Bible. And she’d always wanted to find solutions to human suffering. When she was critically injured in 1866, she turned to God with her whole heart. While reading accounts of Jesus’ swift, powerful healings, she experienced a new sense of God. She saw that God, Spirit, is the only reality. And she was completely healed. She wanted to understand what happened, so she studied the Bible and found universal and dependable laws of God. These laws are the foundation of Christian Science.

Since then many people have been healed and redeemed as they learn about their relationship to God through this reliable Science of Christianity.

We are grateful you are asking about church membership. Membership in our church means joining a loving community that supports one another and this church.

Our members aspire to practice prayer-based healing as taught by Christ Jesus.  We love considering how Christ Jesus’ “two great commandments” relate to church membership. 

“…Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul,  and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets” (Matthew 22: 37-40).

As students of Christian Science, our members strive to follow the examples of Christ Jesus and the discoverer of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy. We also endeavor to rely on God for healing and maintain a pure moral standard as Mary Baker Eddy explains in her writings, for example being free of alcohol, drugs and tobacco. We understand that these guidelines are an important support for our healing practice and we ask that members reflect upon their own progress in these areas. We recognize that we all are on our own individual spiritual journey.

Our church community thrives as members actively attend and support our services and meetings. 

Application procedure

Please ask two unrelated church members (sponsors) to sign your application once you complete it. You may review your answers with them before submitting. One of your sponsors will give the signed application to a member of the Executive Board. The Executive Board will then schedule an interview with you. During this interview, you will have an opportunity to ask questions.
